About This Curriculum: These materials are designed to support immunization education within Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program (EFNEP) programming. These materials should be used to enhance existing lessons and outreach efforts while maintaining EFNEP program guidelines and structure.
The toolkit includes brief “fact vs. myth” messages and supporting materials that can be integrated into existing EFNEP or other health and well-being programs to increase awareness and understanding of vaccines.

Please note the items in this handbook are meant for the enhancement of program participants and should be paid for with alternative funds (i.e. EXCITE funds), not EFNEP funds.
EFNEP program coordinators are responsible for ensuring that EFNEP guidelines are followed, and that the legislatively mandated peer educator model and program fidelity and integrity are maintained if/as EXCITE resources are referenced by incorporated in adult EFNEP programming.
EFNEP funds may not be used to support staff time, beyond minimal time for sharing of EXCITE resources.
How It Works (Delivery Methods)
These materials are designed to be integrated into existing EFNEP programming.
Examples include:
- Incorporating a fact vs. myth message into a lesson
- Adding slides or discussion points during programming
- Sharing materials through outreach, displays, or social media
- Supporting conversations about vaccine access and awareness
These materials should complement—not replace—EFNEP lessons and activities.
Training and Preparation
No formal training is required. Educators are encouraged to review the toolkit and guidance materials to understand how to appropriately integrate content into EFNEP programming.
EFNEP coordinators and supervisors may also provide training or guidance to peer educators on how to use these materials.
Learning Objectives
- Participants will understand how vaccines help protect them from
preventable diseases that can be dangerous and even deadly. - Participants will learn how vaccines help use the body’s immune
system to prepare for future illnesses. - Participants will learn how vaccines help protect them and others.
- Participants will be more confident in deciding whether or not to get
vaccinated.
